Summary of U. S. stimulus packages

  1. American Rescue Plan – $1.9T. It is intended to speed up recovery from economic and health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing economic recession. It was proposed in January and signed as a law in March.
  2. Infrastructure Plan – $2.3T. It is intended for buildings, utilities, transportation, broadband internet etc. It was proposed in March and is being debated. Might be subject to large reduction in size and scope. Noticeably the definitions of infrastructure are quite different between the two major political parties.
  3. American Families Plan – $1.8T. It is intended for child care, education and paid leave. It was proposed tonight and will be potentially funded by raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans. Might be difficult to pass as a law as such.
